Scientific Research

Vitamin D3 and K2 MK-7 are two of the most clinically important fat-soluble nutrients, and their combined use is supported by a growing body of research demonstrating synergistic benefits for immune function, bone health, cardiovascular health, and muscle performance.

1. Immune Function

Vitamin D3 contributes to the normal function of the immune system (EFSA-approved claim). Vitamin D receptors are expressed on virtually all immune cells. A meta-analysis of 25 randomised controlled trials (n=11,321) found that vitamin D supplementation significantly reduced the risk of acute respiratory tract infections, with the greatest benefit seen in those who were deficient.

2. Bone Health — D3 & K2 Synergy

Vitamin D3 enhances intestinal calcium absorption, while K2 MK-7 activates osteocalcin — the protein that directs calcium into bone rather than soft tissue. A 3-year randomised controlled trial found that combined D3 and K2 MK-7 supplementation significantly improved bone mineral density and bone strength compared to D3 alone.

3. Muscle Function & Physical Performance

Vitamin D3 contributes to the maintenance of normal muscle function (EFSA-approved). A meta-analysis of 17 randomised controlled trials found that vitamin D supplementation significantly improved muscle strength, particularly in individuals with low baseline vitamin D status.
